Where to stay in Kadıköy

Kadıköy is the Asian side's centre of gravity — ferries to the old city, the M4 metro and Marmaray underneath it, and a market quarter that stays open long after Sultanahmet has closed. Here is what staying here actually looks like.

The short answer

Stay within a few minutes' walk of the Kadıköy ferry piers. That one decision gives you 20-minute crossings to Eminönü and Karaköy, the M4 metro and Marmaray for the airport and the historic peninsula, and the whole market, meyhane and Bahariye district on foot. My Dora Hotel has been on Tayyareci Sami Sokak — 200 metres from the piers — since 1972: a 39-room, 3-star hotel with a rooftop terrace over Haydarpaşa, breakfast included in every rate, and Türkiye's first Green Hotel certification.

Questions about staying in Kadıköy

Which part of Kadıköy is best to stay in?
The Rıhtım area by the ferry piers. It puts the ferries, the M4 metro, the market and Bahariye Avenue all within a ten-minute walk, and it is the only part of Kadıköy from which you can reach both sides of the city without a connection. Moda is prettier but adds 20 minutes to every trip.
Is it worth staying on the Asian side of Istanbul?
For a second or third visit, or for any trip longer than three nights, yes. You trade a 20-25 minute Marmaray ride to the monuments for lower rates, better food, and evenings in a neighbourhood that is not built around tourism. For a two-night first visit focused entirely on Sultanahmet, staying in the old city saves time.
Is Kadıköy safe at night?
Kadıköy is one of Istanbul's busiest evening districts and the streets around the market and Bahariye stay populated well past midnight, which is generally what makes an area feel safe. Normal city precautions apply.
How late do the Kadıköy ferries run?
Ferries from Kadıköy operate from roughly 06:30 until around 01:00, with the Eminönü and Karaköy crossings every 15-20 minutes through the day. Marmaray runs late as well, so a late return from the European side is straightforward.
How many nights should I stay in Kadıköy?
Three to four nights covers the historic peninsula, a Bosphorus ferry trip and the Kadıköy market and Moda coast without rushing. Add a day if you want the Princes' Islands, which leave from the Kadıköy piers.
